SSML

Within the voiceover text for a video scene, you can embed SSML (Speech Synthesis Markup Language) source code. For example, the following text contains an SSML tag to ensure that "Hg" is pronounced "Mercury".

My favorite chemical element is Hg, because it looks so shiny.

Adding a speech pause (by clicking the button) effectively adds an SSML <break> tag with the appropriate delay.

EngageOne™ Communicate supports neural voices from Google Wavenet and also AWS (Amazon Web Services) neural voices. Where standard Amazon voices were used previously before neural voices were supported, they can continue to be used, but will not be supported for new scenes.

The full list of supported SSML tags, and their availability for specific voices or engines can be found as follows:

Note the following:
  • Amazon voices start from the letter "A": Professional Antonella, Professional Arthur, and others. Other names are from Google (to use SSML tags properly).
  • If you use Professional Amy, Professional Ava, Professional Andrew or Professional Antonella, you can use the newscaster Amazon SSML tag when embedding SSML.
